TOYOTA THROUGH THE DECADES
The 1930’s and 1940’s saw the start of what is currently known as the Toyota Motor Company. In 1935 a prototype car and a prototype truck were produced when a factory in Japan began operations. In 1937, the “Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.” was established; in 1941 production of passenger cars started, and in 1942, the KB truck started production. In 1945, what is currently the Toyota Auto Body Co. was established, and by 1947 10,000 Toyota vehicles had been produced in Japan. In 1950, Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. was established, and then, in 1957, what is now known as Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. is established. That year, the Toyota Crown became the first passenger car to be exported to the United States of America, starting a trend that would continue to present day.
In 1961, what is currently the first Toyota Corolla dealership was established, and a few years later, in 1966, the very first Toyota Corolla (one of the most popular passenger cars to ever be manufactured) rolled off the assembly line. By the year the first American astronauts were walking on the moon, annuals sales of Toyota vehicles reached one million units, and by 1975, exports of Japanese vehicles reached five million units and then ten million units in 1979. The year 1980 saw the introduction of one of the most beloved and reliable cars of all time—the Toyota Camry. In 1982, Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales, Co. Ltd. merged into what is now known as the Toyota Motor Corporation. Our Berlin Toyota dealership services all makes and models including: used Chevrolet, used Dodge, used Ford, used Honda, used Jeep, used Lexus, used Nissan, used Scion, used Subaru, used Toyota and used VW vehicles.
Since that time, the Toyota Motor Company has continued to grow exponentially producing millions of amazing vehicles each year. By 2012, worldwide sales of Toyota vehicles topped four million units, and just one year later, that number was five million units. Today, worldwide Corolla sales top 40 million units.
